The Be ALPACA poncho is the new Black for women and men. In principle, the poncho was born as a basic men's clothing. Lately we see that when talking about the latest trends in men's fashion, brands show a renewed interest in the poncho.

The feminization of men's fashion that started at the beginning of 2015, especially provoked by Gucci and its silk blouses during the fall / winter 2015 that we saw last January, continues to rise. If ponchos, in recent years, were the 'must-have' pieces for women, it seems that in 2017 it will also be the turn of men with Poncho Be ALPACA.

Ponchos are warmer than capes, as they trap heat, keeping the arms close to the body. The Poncho is popular simply because it is comfortable and very easy to wear. It goes with everything. One size fits all and it is never too tight.

The Peruvian textile tradition is probably the oldest in the world. Thousands of years of history surprise us. Peru is a country that weaves its history and Peruvian chronicles are influenced by the alpaca fiber.

The poncho is traditional Peruvian heritage, it is the typical dress of Peru. It is a simple design cape. A rectangular piece of thick fabric with a cut in the center to introduce the head. The fabric is dropped over the body, so that the arms move freely.

It is believed that the etymological origin of the word poncho comes from the Quechua word punchu. But before the Incas, the poncho existed. The poncho contains in its weave the secret history of the Peruvian people.

The Peruvian poncho appears, at least 1000 years before Christ, in the area of Paracas and was used as a burial offering. The different pre-Columbian cultures, gave special importance to the clothes that should accompany them to the afterlife. For those pre-Columbian cultures, the clothes had to be made to last beyond death. Alpaca fiber was the only fiber that could last for eternity.

The Peruvian poncho as we know it today, comes from the early 17th century and is supposedly a variation of the Unku, a variety of waistcoat with a central opening, which would have become a tunic.

The poncho is not a trend, it is not a fad that arrived three or four seasons ago, the poncho is currently a basic that is always present in the major fashion brands. The poncho has been in fashion for thousands of years and is still a basic garment.

We know that the 21st century will be the century of the globalization of Peruvian ponchos.

In the last edition of SCOOP International Fashion Show held in London, in the SAATCHI Gallery, the fair decided to dress all the employees of the fair with Be ALPACA ponchos. This action will be repeated also during the LONDON FASHION WEEK that will take place at the end of February 2016.
